Every year on April 13th, UCF celebrates their annual Day of Giving at all of their campuses state wide! Their goal is to raise as much money as they can for the school- for a whole 24 hours. At Rosen College of Hospitality (my main campus) these funds include student scholarships, Rosen's Pineapple Pantry (groceries for students in need), student emergency funds, and more. As a first year transfer student, I was so excited to participate in this year's event!
I volunteered with POMP (Peer Outreach Mentorship Program) and ended up helping out Rosen Life (on campus event hub) with the welcome table at the front entrance to our school! Rosen Life supplied a speaker with fun music, a popcorn machine, a cotton candy machine, and an array of games and activities for students to participate in.
We helped direct students to The Disney Dining Room, where Rosen representatives supplied breakfast (from 10-12) and lunch (from 12-2) and more activities for students to get involved with. They also enticed us with stickers, I <3 UCF pins, and UCF portable hand-fans. Our goal was to ask everyone to donate at least $5, and by the time I left around 2PM we had raised over $22,000!
I had always heard such amazing things about UCF, and I knew a long time ago this is where I wanted to go back to school. However, I had no idea how amazing our Rosen campus was- and all of the amazing ways that UCF supports their students. It feels amazing to be part of such a loving and supportive school, and I love that I can help give back! I even saw one of my professors at the event on her day off- and that truly shows how much this school means to the community. You can donate until midnight tonight by using this link!
There are so many things I love about living in Orlando. Starting a career change can be scary, but I feel so supported and loved on my education journey of studying Event Management. Thank you, UCF and Rosen College!
