St. Jude hosted their annual Walk/Run this year on Saturday September 24th at Fun Spot Orlando! Although many cities across the country celebrate at different times, this was the Orlando area specific event. This year I've been involved with the St. Jude Orlando Gala Committee, and was so excited to participate in my first walk/run for St. Jude!
Check-in began at 7AM with fun activities to support St. Jude- like writing inspiring quotes on their Butterfly wall- and a VIP breakfast. At 8AM, the managers of Fun Spot came on stage to welcome us and introduce a few key speakers- like former St. Jude patients who got to share their stories, and a fun warm up with a Zumba instructor. They organized us all behind the Starting Line- where the 1 milers went first. About 20 minutes later, they released the 5k-ers to the route.
Along the way were cheerleaders with Fun Spot bangers cheering us on! There were so many of us, it really didn't feel like working out. They even had volunteers passing out cups of water throughout the route, too! The real party was coming up to the Finish Line- there was music, balloons, cheering crowds, and of course an extra-large "Finish Line" float that we got to run through.
I was so blessed to be a part of the annual St. Jude's Walk/Run this year and help raise money for an amazing cause. It's so heartwarming to meet people who have been touched and saved by the work of St. Jude Cancer Research! Have you ever donated to St. Jude's before?
